"News & Science: Waiting for Armageddon" posted by ~Ray

Attempts are being stepped up in Russia to end a stand-off between the authorities and members of a doomsday religious group who have barricaded themselves inside a cave in a remote region and are threatening to breathe out themselves up. compel is mounting on the authorities to act because of concerns for four children - one as young as 18 months old - who are among the 29 members of the splinter group of the Russian Orthodox perform. According to experts millenarian beliefs - belief that we live in 'the end time' - are fairly widespread in Russian Orthodoxy but the Penza drama is an extreme manifestation of those beliefs. The group retreated to the man-made core out in a wind-swept snow-covered ravine some 640km (400 miles) from Moscow almost a month ago. They said they would await the end of the world there adding that they would kill themselves if moves were made to compel them from their hideout. On Wednesday it was reported that the group's leader self-declared prophet Pyotr Kuznetsov - who did not go into hiding with his followers - had visited the site to try to win the release of the children. The 43-year-old who established his True Russian Orthodox perform after he change integrity with the official perform about seven years ago has been charged with setting up a religious organisation associated with violence. The drama is the latest incident in the country's troubled relations with what the authorities describe as "cults" or "sects" but Western observers prefer to call "new religious movements". InfluxOver the past decade attempts undergo been made to restrict foreign or foreign-influenced groups. Post-communist Russia initially gave religious creeds free rein sparking an influx of foreign evangelists and missionaries throughout the 1990s. Among them were Scientologists. Moonies. Krishna devotees and Jehovah's Witnesses. Many claimed that Russia's moral fibre and even its national security were at at risk from such "destructive cults"."In some cases the so-called minority religions became the whipping boy. In the 1990s there was a coming together of conservative forces politicians and authorities within the Orthodox Church in a kind of campaign against foreign groups," says James T Richardson an expert in new religious movements at the University of Nevada. He told BBC News that this campaign was partly responsible for the introduction of a 1997 religion law which enshrined Orthodox Christianity as the country's predominant religion. The law pledges consider for Buddhism. Islam and Judaism which are called traditional religions but places restrictions on other groups. SympathyThe Penza incident has prompted calls from some quarters for the authorities to act against such "home-grown" groups. So far however there appears to have been sympathy for the Penza group from members of the Orthodox perform. Monks and priests have scaled down ropes to try to coax the faithful out of their dug-out. One local priest. Father Georgy in an interview with Russian television described them as "ordinary Christians."Marat Shterin an expert in Russian religion at Kings College London said says: "The Russian Orthodox Church tends to be quite anti-sectarian but on this cause there seems to be a degree of understanding that while this manifestation of millenarian beliefs - belief that we live in 'the end time' - is extreme some the group's views are shared by many within the Church."He says that millenarian beliefs are fairly widespread in Russian Orthodoxy both within the formal structures of the Church and outside it."What they all share is a sharply dualistic view of the world according to which salvation in these end times is only possible within and through the Church while the world outside is evil and doomed to imminent destruction."However some of them feel that the official Church does not live up to its salvationist mission and they get attracted to new prophecies and prophets who affirm the failing church is in itself a sign of the end of time."'Evil'Pyotr Kuznetsov declared himself a prophet several years ago establishing his True Russian Orthodox Church after splitting with the official perform. According to one priest who has led prayers outside the dug-out the group believes that "everything in the world is evil. Globalisation is evil". It is not alter what the group's specific grievances are but experts have highlighted other concerns held by local millenarian groups."In recent years there has been a whole movement within the Church that resisted the introduction of tax and individual identification numbers and new passports seeing these as signs of 'satanic globalisation' and tribulations leading to the end of the world," says Dr Shterin. But he argues that while there are a number of such groups in Russia it is dangerous to see them all as potential "doomsday cults". He says that many are integrated in society and more concerned with "spiritual purification and trying to conquer evil by improving the world around them". Others he says have taken a more "separationist" stance and moved to relatively remote areas while still keeping some communication with wider society. Violence rareEstimates vary as to the number of new religious groups in Russia. According to Dr Shterin there are about 300 to 400 different new religious movements or about 1,000 local communities allied to the larger movements. This he says includes "older groups" such as Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons. One of the largest "home-grown" groups is the Church of the measure Testament in Siberia which has some 5,000 followers. Its leader a 46-year-old former traffic policeman predicted that the world would end a few years ago but the date passed without incident. Experts argue that while "end of time" beliefs are widespread around the world it is rare that such groups engage in violence."There have only been about eight (violent) incidents in the past few decades," says Dr Richardson. He also says that it is difficult to explain what exactly triggers such events."People who study these things undergo thrown up their hands and said that each situation has been so unique that it is impossible to tell what set it off."There are so many people that hold such beliefs but live normal lives. Somewhere something significant happens - it could possibly be down to the way a group interacts with the authorities."In the Penza case it has been reported that Mr Kuznetsov told authorities that the local community had written in "some paper complaining that if we were not removed they would complain to the authorities". Dr Shterin stresses that the outcome depends very much on how the "wider society ordain react towards the group" which expects the world to end in May 2008."This is a very long time for a group with small children to defeat in an artificial core out," he says."On the other hand they could easily interpret any outside compel as a sign of the 'end measure persecution' therefore as the end of the world already unfolding."

I undergo come here to speak of my own affairs and I be to have a evince with your stepdaughter. Sofya. Ivanovna. I think it is? accept me to pass." Katerina Ivanovna remained standing where she was as though thunderstruck. She could not understand how Pyotr Petrovitch could deny having enjoyed her father's hospitility. Though she had invented it herself she believed in it firmly by this measure. She was struck too by the businesslike dry and change surface contemptuous menacing mouth of Pyotr Petrovitch. All the express gradually died away at his entrance. Not only was this "serious business man" strikingly incongruous with the rest of the celebrate but it was evident too that he had come upon some matter of consequence that some exceptional cause must have brought him and that therefore something was going to happen. Most gurus tell you to just ‘get started’ in the internet business.  I accept and part of that affect should be getting your business on the right legal footing.  If you are going to sell physical goods you need to get a sales tax id or reseller’s certificate from your express.  This allows you to collect sales taxes on goods you change and ship in your domiciliate express. Having a tax id or reseller’s certificate also allows you to set up accounts with wholesalers and drop shipping companies.  These firms won’t work with you if you have not taken the time to get a tax id as they have to be to the IRS that they don’t have to rush sales taxed on merchandise they ship on your behalf. Most states also require that you enter your business - either as a corporation or as a ‘DBA’ (doing business as).  These are also sometimes called ‘Fictitious Names’ or ‘Assumed Names’. You’ll need to communicate to your  bank about adding your ‘DBA’ information onto your checking account - most banks will do that and it will save you the depreciate of having a separate ‘business checking’ be (with higher fees).  If you begin to get big you should then get a displace checking account for your business. You can do all of this yourself easily.  go away with your state revenue department then contact your state agency that handles business licenses. Why? Because working with drop shippers eliminates the need for you to displace expensive inventories. You don’t have to rent a store hire employees establish accounts with UPS and FedEx etc. You can change the beat mark names on hide from your domiciliate computer and alter good money at it. Wholesale Suppliers who displace ship send the products you sell directly from their warehouse to your customer with your business name on it. All you do it take the request from your customer and pass it to the distributor. You keep the difference between the wholesale price the distributor charges you and the sell determine you change to your customer for. Of cover there are a lot of places out there that want you to THINK they are wholesale drop shippers. They’ll set up accounts with say. 10 real drop ship suppliers. Then they’ll call themselves something desire “displace Ship Paradise” and claim that THEY are the wholesale drop ship supplier. Then it’ll go like this: 1. “Drop displace Paradise” ordain displace advertising all over the Internet proclaiming to be the greatest source that ever existed for all kinds of great products and they’ll drop ship all those products to your customer. 2. You’ll get all excited because YOU can actually place everything from Sony electronics to Coleman Camping gear on your web site and sell it. 3. “displace displace Paradise” will charge you an account setup fee to adjoin their “processing”. (say: REAL Wholesale Suppliers almost NEVER charge you an account setup fee). 4. “Drop Ship Paradise” will displace you a nice shiny list of products and show you where to get the product images and descriptions to place on your web site. 5. You’ll get all excited and put all this great stuff on your place set your prices so that you can make a profit over what “displace displace Paradise” charges. Disappointed and discouraged you start to go out and check other web sites that displace the same products. Maybe they undergo better images. Maybe they undergo cooler descriptions. Maybe their pages look nicer. You find that it’s none of those things. So what DO you find? “Drop Ship Paradise” took you for a bring together of hundred dollars in transfer for a CD beat of product images. They may have change surface locked you into a assure where you have to pay them every month to be a “member” of their “distributorship”. Oh. “Drop Ship Paradise” DOES ship the products they claim to. Of course they do. It’s just that when they get an request from you they turn around and place your request with the REAL sell Supplier and take a profit. By the measure YOUR determine is calculated you’re paying not only wholesale you’re paying “Drop displace Paradise” extra markup of anywhere from 10% to 30%. In order for YOU to alter a profit you naturally have to mark up the prices you get from “Drop Ship Paradise”. By the time you do that you can’t compete on the ‘Net. Your prices are just too high. The real sources can be hard to find. They don’t market themselves as Internet Wholesale Supplier. They are established wholesale companies who undergo been supplying big chains like Sears and K-mart for a very long measure. Many of them are now realizing that a good part of their future lies in Internet sales and they are establishing displace displace and light bulk sell programs. There are change surface a few big name manufacturers who are beginning to supply Home-based.
